progress is slow if you ask me. Aussie construction workers are so lazy compared to those in Asia!
ahh yeh i must agree - takes forever for projects to get started here compared to places like Hong Kong. The Parramatta to Chatswood rail link project was first proposed in 1998 and due for completion in 2004. Next the project was postponed for two years (due for completion in 2006).
After another two years, they FINALLY start in November 2002. The result?
* Completion by mid 2008 (hopefully)
* Half the line at double the original cost (originally $1.6 bn to build the whole line, now over $2 bn to build half of it, probably over $3 bn to build the whole thing)
* Three new stations instead of four
I suppose we should be happy the Carr government actually started this rail project. I don't even have enough fingers to count the number of other rail-related projects the Carr government has delayed, posponed indefinitely or scrapped. The only road project that was originally proposed in 'Action for Transport 2010' that got scrapped is the M4 east. All the other ones (Cross City Tunnel, M5 east, Lane Cove Tunnel, Eastern Distributor...) are being built or are opened.
