On track again

Went on another outing the other day - this time to Woy Woy Tunnel up north!

Above: Tunnel north entrance (you can see the exit at the end - the white dot)

Woy Woy Tunnel is 1.8km long, so it takes 30-40 minutes to get from one end to the other. Oh and the trains are still running while you do this, so you gotta dodge those too - both normal electric trains and diesel-blowing freighters.

Above: At the south end (the yellow dot in the background is actually a freight train approaching)

But that's not all - throw the Hawkesbury River Railway Bridge into the package too!

And why not include a Bridge Climb as well?!

It's a pretty stunning view from up there - more natural than the view from on top of the Harbour Bridge. And you don't have to wear a funny jumpsuit either!

Above: Do you like heights?? How about water?? How about being at heights above water?!

Ahhh the joys of railway infrastructure.

jeff: what sort of stuff do you get to climb? been anywhere interesting?

meneng: my total count to date has only been 4 (1 not at RailCorp), so not that much more than you...

and yep, every experience is always an eye opener - the ECRL didn't have trains running through it, but Woy Woy Tunnel did!

at one stage, i didn't have enough time to get to a safe place to refuge from a train on the opposite track, and the wind that it pushed in front of it almost knocked me over (cos the train is travelling at 100km/h)!

jely: mmmm mines eh. what sort of mines - uranium? kryptonite? ;)

if it's in the NT it does seem a *bit* remote!

jeff: oooo hey that sounds like fun! if we're talking about the city, then commercial buildings can get quite tall...

char: ummmm...yes...

Let no joyful voice be heard! Let no man look up to the sky with hope! And let this day be cursed by we who ready to wake...THE KRAKEN!

*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*
