anna: true true...the original plan that Mr Bradfield came up with was for the Eastern Suburbs line to go through St James, rather than the present day route via Martin Place.
The present day route itself was supposed to go through the Eastern suburbs towards UNSW...a lack of money meant it got curtailed at Bondi Junction.
We'll see what originates this time around. I've read a lot of arguments saying that Light Rail rather than metro is more suited to the East. ------- jeff: yeah hehehe that'd be good for ya!
Good question about how long it'll take before becoming a reality. The government says 2017 but I personally think that's being too optimistic. If there's no signed construction contract by the next state election in 2011, then who knows if or when this line will ever come about... =P
maybe 2050 when we're all in our 70s! ------ chandrew: hahaha are you skeptical? =)
i don't blame anyone in the hills for being cynical!
actually, a number of people who know a thing or two about the railways believes the Epping-Rouse Hill part should be built as heavy rail, with the Epping to St James bit as a metro.
but we'll see what eventuates (if anything at all)!

Haha...they've been promising an extension to the Eastern Suburbs Railline on and off for 50 years....
Trains going through Top Ryde FTW!! Wonder how long it'll be before it becomes a reality.
hey, well whaddaya know, by the time I get to use that metro line I bet I would've moved out of my suburb :( (assuming it is built)
