Update on Epping-Chatswood Rail Line

Construction work started on the Epping to Chatswood line in November 2002. At the moment, construction is essentially complete, and the focus is on operational readiness and testing. There are still a few things to do before the line can be opened to the public.

Just this week, the overhead wiring was switched on, and they ran the first electric train through. Here's a picture of the first electric train to ever use the line!

The question everyone is asking is...when is the line going to open to the public? Sources indicate that services will start operating on the weekend of 21-22 February 2009 next year. That's about 8 months behind the original scheduled date. But of course that date is assuming nothing goes pear shaped in the next 9 months, which may well be a possibility...!

EDIT: Here's another picture of the first train - it was a 6 car train...!
